Health & safety is not all about red tape. Many of the legal obligations a company has as an employer protects not only their workforce, but the business itself too. It can be a daunting task keeping on top of the required documentation, particularly for SMEs and new businesses. Health & safety is an investment - if you have good foundations and the right support, you'll have a safety system that grows with you.
Competent Support
What do you need to have?
In the UK, businesses are legally required to ensure the health, safety and welfare of their employees. Under the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 (Regulation 7), you must appoint appoint one or more competent person. Competent persons can be internal or external, but should have the skills, knowledge and experience to identify hazards and apply appropriate controls to ensure risks are managed.
Every business must have a policy for managing health and safety in the workplace. If you are a team of 5 or more, you must retain this, and other documents such as risk assessments, in a written format. These documents must be shared with your employees, and should be reviewed and updated regularly.
How do we work?
Health & Safety support isn't a one size fits all solution. Every business, management team and worker is different. We offer a range of solutions based on what your business needs; our standard memberships provide varying levels of support, and if you find that none of these are quite right, we tailor a package to reflect what you need. We won't insist that you pay for services that you don't need to fit a service level because that doesn't bring value to your business, nor does it allow us to support you in the right way. Our aim is to integrate with your team, an external extension that your business can call on for advice, document support and incident management, should it ever be needed.
Membership Packages
We offer 5 membership packages - Bronze through to Diamond. Each package offers varying service levels, starting from £80.00 per month. Our membership packages also allow you to access discounts on services such as e-learning and classroom training, access to document libraries and competent advice, including out of hours support. If you need something that doesn't fit our standard health & safety memberships, we will always tailor a package that is completely bespoke to your business.
Site inspections
So, you have the right documents and framework - but are your staff in the field doing things by the book? Performing site visits is vital to ensure that your staff are engaged and doing things by the book - cutting corners not only puts your staff and those around them at risk, but can also damage your business reputation. We carry out thorough, documented site visits - highlighting what you need to know about your on-site operations.
Documentation
Have 5 or more employees? This is the point where your health & safety policy and supporting documents must be documented. As part of our Health & Safety service, we can support your safety document needs, whether you're starting from scratch or have an established system. That includes policy documents, risk assessments and methods statements, COSHH assessments, and construction phase plans.
Emergency Planning
Emergency preparedness is a key element of ISO 14001 & 45001. But it's not just for ISOs. Fire evacuation, first aid response, spills - regardless of whether you have an ISO or not, these are all incidents that could occur to any business, in any environment. It's human nature to panic in an emergency - it's best to be prepared. We can create bespoke emergency plans for your premises, including fire, and deliver training to staff too.
